The platform is bolted to the vehicle with 8 bolts.  It's very unlikely that a thief would know what they were stealing, much less have an m13 wrench with them.   We've been selling RTTs since 2009 and we've only heard 1 story about a tent being stolen at a campground.    And if you're worried about the tent, because it's only 25lbs, you can take it in a hotel or airbnb with you while traveling, or some people who travel to shady parts of the world have used small travel locks through the grommets to the platform for extra assurance.
